Is it Safe to use Body Soap as Shampoo?

For about a year now, I had a Scalp/Head Odor. It smells very sour.





And I heard people on messageboards saying that they tried Dial Anti-Bacteria Body Wash to wash their hair and it worked.





So I was wondering if it was safe to use Body Soap as a Shampoo. Will it ';Over-dry'; my scalp? Will it do any sort of damage?

It will strip your hair and scalp of natural oils. Shampoos have a certain PH balance that is made for hair - if you use skin products on hair, it will leave your scalp flaky and your hair frizzy.





Maybe your scalp has some kind of infection that could be causing the odor? Try using a dandruff shampoo, which kills the bacteria that cause infections in the scalp.Is it Safe to use Body Soap as Shampoo?
hi , humm... no the body soap wont hurt your hair but it will dry it out after awhile. if u find that its the only thing that helps maybe you could just use it every other time instead of everytime. Im a hairdresser and when this happends in my shop the best thing that i finds that really makes a differance is Paul Michells Tea Tree shampoo and contitionar. Its really minty smell and feel to it, it really cleans your scalp and hair and leaves it with a fresh tingalie feel to it. they also have a hole bunch of styling products that are tea tree aswell that i really like too. You can find the product probibly any salon that sells paul mitchell. but anyway !.. thats what i would try first before the soap thing :o) - Hope i hellped ;o) - Rachel
soap is usually a detergent...makes LOTS of lather...lots of lather = DRYNESS....


if you have a problem with your head...maybe what you need is FRAGRANCE FREE shampoo and conditioner. (google for it..I have some and it's wonderful.) or see a dermatologist.
they have soaps that are also shampoo like an all in one thing

I tryed that before DO NOT DO IT it messes up your scalp and it makes it itchy for like 3 weeks so yea dont do that man
It'll usually make your hair really oily.


But you can try it, it's not going to ruin your hair.
It may ';over-dry'; your scalp, no further damages.





Try it, if you like it, keep using it once a week.

Its not designed for hair but It will clean it. It might not do all of those other fancy stuff that special shampoos are supposed to do but I'm sure its fine.
VARY bad idea! Don't try it ...I've seen ppl who have and at the end they're hair was ruined so it's a bad idea i suggest you don't attempt it.
yes its safe. when i was little my granny made me use dawn dish soap cause she didn't have shampoo (old ladies go to the salon like once a week lol)
prolly not too much damage y not get shampoo for 3 dollars

well what shampoo and conditioner do you use??





in one of my classes i learnt that many ppl are allergic to sulfates. now most shampoos are made of sulfates... so is kinda a vicious cycle. that could be a factor. does ur scalp itch? is it gooey?





personally i wouldnt use body soap in my hair.... it will dry your hair out.... like the ph of ur hair is a 4.5 - 5 so you should use a shampoo that carries the same ph... you can find that on the back of the bottle.





have you ever seen the volcano sience projects w/ vinegar and baking soda? one is acidic the other alkaline... it explodes. so that chemical reaction on your hair is no bueno





dial soap or body soap is more basic than shampoos cuz there is more lye in them... and even most shampoos are basic (or alkaline) themselves. that is why you never see the ph on the bottles of shampoo at walmart.





if i was you i would go to your local salon and ask for a scalp treatment... or if there r n e beauty schools near by cuz it will be cheaper for you and give the students credit. at my beauty school we offer them for like $9.00. and they feel sooooo good.





try geting some enjoy rejuvinateing sulfate free shampoo


it has tea tree oil in it and tingles and helps out ur scalp. i love that stuff... but it is expensive... maybe try the shampoo ';maine and tail';. is cheaper. you can get it at sally's beauty supply... that shampoo is a bit stronger too so a little bit goes a long way.





you should probably grab some clarifying spray too. it will help get rid of mineral buildup in ur hair and scalp too.
